Lavrion is located

on the very southeast part of the Athen´s peninsula.
The driving distance by bus or car to Athen´s airport Eleftherios venizelos is only 35 km, so it is the same to drive to the town of Athens or to Lavrion.
It´s advantage is the location for sailors and charterers of a yacht:
from here, very quickly one can reach all the georgeaus sailing destinations, the cycladic islands, Euboea, and the northeastern located northern saronic islands with Skiathos

The village of Lavrion itself is not very attractive, it is a fishermen´s and industrial harbour.

Marina Lavrion

is one of a few pleasureboat Marinas in Greece, but it seems, that the management does not do very well or is interested in the prosperity and development of this Marina. Places for Yachts there are VERY expensive, but the "life" inside the Marina does not exist at all! Nearly no offices and shops are rented and so it looks unused, empty and dead and gives an impression of a "ghost-town" not only in wintertime... a pity...

However, it´s a very safe marina, so many private owners have their boats here. If one is happy with a "parking lot"§ for his boat, he might be satisfied. If one looks for "Marina life", he will not be happy and concentrate on town-port.(which is the nice thing in greek ports anyway - what is moire attractiove for a sailor than watching and enjoying the daily life of a port from his boat!?? (even, if its´a little noise, often, but that´s real life...)

The Chartercompanies mostly work from the old and alive port of Lavrion.
This is only 1.5 km away and one can find Cafeneons (Cafes) and Tavernas to enjoy daily greek life. The charterbases are housed in containers, but one can find these relatively easy inside the port area, there are flags everywhere with the companie´s names on it.

Often, cheap flight to Athens make it necessary to stay one night in a Hotel before the sailing trip to the Cyclades starts or after return. The advantage of Athens is the possibility to visit Acropolis and see the famous party area of Plaka, and maybe go shopping.

The advantage of Lavrion: quiteness!

There is (only) one Hotel located about 5 km from Lavrion to the direction Cape Sounion, and that is the only one, that can be recommended.

Make sure, you have a reservation before you arrive.

When you stay one night there, you can drive by car to the famous temple of Cape Sounio, which is only a few km away.Make a walk up to the hill and enjoy the very beautiful and impressing sunset:

There is a small Taverna named Akrogianni located on the small beach (indeed, there are 2 or 3, but we tried this one, and it was simple, but very good food at reasonable prices!), and on windy days or in spring or autumn, when it´s a little fresh outside, one can sit inside.
